The teaching staff is available during scheduled office hours and by appointment. We are here to help you.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to your TAs or the instructor if you are experiencing difficulty.
If at any point you want additional academic help beyond that provided by the course staff, we encourage you
to contact the Penn Tutoring Center. It is best to get connected
with a tutor early in the semester before all spots are filled. (It can be difficult to get a tutor if you wait until
midterm week.) All Tutoring Center services are FREE for undergraduates.
We are committed to assisting students requiring special accommodations for circumstances that are
registered with the Office of Student Disability Services (SDS).
The University of Pennsylvania provides reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities who have
self-identified and been approved by SDS. Students need to make arrangements
with SDS. If you have not yet contacted SDS and would like to request accommodations or have questions,
you can make an appointment by calling SDS at 215-573-9235. The office is located in the Weingarten
Learning Resources Center at Hamilton Village 220 South 40th Street, Suite 260. All services are confidential.
If you are not formally registered with SDS and experience anxiety, depression, learning disabilities or
other issues that affect your ability to fully participate and learn in this class, you are encouraged to
check-in with a course instructor.
Mental Health Resources
If you experience significant stress or worry, changes in mood, or problems eating or sleeping this semester,
whether because of CIS 1210 or other courses or factors, please do not hesitate to reach out immediately, at any
hour, to any of the course staff to discuss. Everyone can benefit from support during challenging times. Not
only are we happy to listen and make accommodations, we can also refer you to additional support structures
on campus, including, but not limited to:
If you or someone you know is in distress and poses an immediate danger to self or others please contact the Department of Public Safety at 215-898-7333, or 511.
Diversity and Inclusion
We would like to create a learning environment that supports a diversity of thoughts, perspectives and experiences, and honors your identities.
To help accomplish this:
If you have a name and/or set of pronouns that differ from those that appear in your official Penn records, please let us know!
If you feel like your performance in the class is being impacted by your experiences outside of class, please don't hesitate to come and talk with us.
As a participant in course discussions, office hours, and recitations, you should also strive to honor the diversity of your classmates.
If you ever are struggling and just need someone to talk to, feel free to stop by office hours, or to reach out to an instructor and we can arrange a private meeting
with an assurance of full confidentiality.
